In October 2024, SICEP opened the doors of its plant to engineering students from Sicilian universities as part of the “Open Doors” program promoted by Federbeton.
The three days dedicated to students saw the participation of:
- The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Messina, accompanied by Professor Antonino Recupero;
- The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Kore University of Enna, accompanied by Professor Gaetano Di Bella;
- The Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture at the University of Catania, accompanied by Professor Pier Paolo Rossi and Professor Melina Bosco.
The event began with a welcome address by Engineer Luca Civello, Executive Director, who introduced the company and outlined the themes of the “Open Doors” program.
This was followed by contributions from Engineer Rosario Blanca, Technical Director, who delved into the topic of prestressing and the evolution of prefabricated systems over time, and Engineer Raffaella Basile, QHSE Manager, who discussed the advantages of the prefabrication sector in terms of sustainability, presenting practical case studies from SICEP.
Also present were Engineer Luca Pellino and Engineer Luca Di Iorio from Buzzi Unicem, who explained the cement production cycle and presented the cement plant’s strategies for reducing environmental impacts.
In the second part of the day, guided tours of the plant allowed students to closely observe the production cycle of prestressed elements, the batching plant, and the facilities for recovering production waste.
Through these events, SICEP aimed to bring future generations of engineers closer to the world of prefabrication, showcasing its unique features, strengths, and the significant contribution the sector can offer to the construction industry.
